Lyon County folks planning on a romp at the park will have to keep on their toes so they don't violate the new park ordinance approved last week by the Lyon County Board of Commissioners.
The new rules prohibit dogs everywhere in county parks, except where posted. Jannette Hoffert, Parks and Recreation executive director, said the county plans on building special dog parks for each community.
Service animals are exempt from the prohibitions; all animals other than dogs are banned from county parks.
Camping, fires and cooking are also prohibited, except for in posted areas. Fireworks are prohibited without written permission from the parks director.
The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in posted nonalcohol areas.
The expression of nudity and the shooting of firearms or archery devices are also banned.
Parkgoers should not bring in glass containers unless they are used for the preparation of food.
Littering, disturbing or damaging historical or archaeological sites is prohibited.
Disturbing the peace with loud or unusual noise, using obscene or threatening conduct, or operating a gas or electric-powered device is prohibited.
Smoking is permitted unless an area is designated smoke-free.
Dumping of sewage, wastewater or effluent is prohibited.
The ordinance requires games such as ball games or horseshoes to be played only at designated areas and at specific times, to prevent damage to the fields or disputes over use.
"We need this so when there are issues we have some legal recourse," Hoffert said.
Permits are now required to hold special events in the parks.
Fees will be charged for special events.
The new rules only apply to parks, not the Dayton Valley Events Center in Dayton or the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Yerington.
