A Las Vegas financial consultant has announced his candidacy for Nevada treasurer.
Geoffrey VanderPal has been a Nevada resident for seven years. He is a Democrat with 14 years in investment management, banking and financial planning.
VanderPal said he will not accept campaign contributions from financial service firms or their employees to ensure the integrity of the treasurer's office.
"Integrity of the taxpayers' money is the paramount responsibility of the state treasurer," he said.
He holds a master's of business administration from Webster University and a doctorate degree in finance and business administration from Nova Southeastern University.
He is the second Democrat to enter the race to replace Brian Krolicki. Kate Marshall is a former deputy attorney general who served as Nevada's anti-trust lawyer.
The Republicans seeking the office are Las Vegas businessman Mark DeStefano and outgoing controller Kathy Augustine.
