Douglas High graduate Brittany Puzey has been named as the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the University of Nevada softball team.
Puzey, a freshman, helped Nevada win the University of San Diego Tournament with a 3-1 record this past weekend. During the tournament and doubleheaders against Sacramento State and Cal State Northridge, Puzey hit .414, with 12 hits, scored five runs and had 14 RBI. In the tournament, Puzey had 10 RBI in 14 at-bats.
In a 10-0 win over UC Riverside, Puzey had six RBI, including a grand slam home run in a five-run fourth inning that gave Nevada a 7-0 lead. Puzey is currently hitting .340 with 16 hits and 17 RBI on the season.
