Nancy Christian Miluck

Nancy C. Miluck, 73, died Jan. 3, 2006, at her home in Genoa of cancer.

She was born Aug. 27, 1932, in San Antonio to Charles and Nancy Simpson Christian.

After the death of her mother, she was raised by her aunt Grace Simpson.

She graduated from Decatur High School in 1948, and went on to college at Southern Methodist University, graduating in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in English. She took journalism classes at that same college, and received her master's in education in 1955 from the University of Texas at Austin.

She married Michael Miluck in San Francisco on Dec. 26, 1964. They moved to Genoa in 1969.

She participated in several civic and volunteer activities, serving as the Genoa Bicentennial chairwoman, the Genoa Sesquicentennial coordinator and a coordinator of the Candy Dance.

She wrote and published several books about the Genoa area, including "The Genoa-Carson Valley Book" and "Nevada - This Is Our Land."

She was a member of several organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Genoa Historic District Commission, the Nevada Historical Society, the Nevada State Museum, the Western Trails Research Association, the Dallas Press Club, Mensa, the Carson Valley Historical Society and Sierra Nevada Republican Women.

She held journalism positions at numerous Texas newspapers and Nevada publications.

She was also a substitute teacher in Douglas County and taught speech and journalism at Western Nevada Community College. In 2004, she was elected to the Genoa Town Board for a four-year term.

Among her survivors are her husband; daughter and son-in-law Mary Grace and Terry Peterson and their son John, all of Genoa; daughter Elise of San Francisco, Calif.; a niece; and several nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Genoa Town Hall on Jan. 8.
