Man held in attack on girlfriend

(Staff report) - A Carson City man remains in jail on charges that he allegedly attempted to murder his girlfriend at a local motel Saturday night.

Steven Roof, 46, was arrested at 5:36 p.m. Saturday at a motel in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on suspicion of felony attempted murder and suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, Roof's girlfriend came to visit him in his room, and he became agitated when she told him she had a date for later that evening.

He then allegedly wrapped a belt around her throat and attempted to strangle her.

When the girlfriend attempted to leave, Roof allegedly pulled her back into the room by her hair and throat.

Roof is being held on $75,000 bail.
