An open house in memory of Joseph B. La Monica, 74, of Gardnerville, will be from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 3 at 65 Highway 341, in Mound House.
Mr. La Monica died Jan. 23, 2006. He was born May 27, 1931, in Los Angeles.
He was considered a pioneer in SCUBA diving and spearfishing equipment manufacturing.
He was a developer of industrial and commercial properties throughout Mound House and Lyon County.
He enjoyed animals and was active in promoting animal welfare throughout the Lyon and Douglas counties.
Among his survivors are his wife of 22 years, Ann La Monica; brother Jon La Monica of Yucca Valley, Calif.; sister Frances Stalker of Orange, Calif.; sons Larry of Carson City, Kevin of Tustin, Calif., and Lee of Norfolk, Va.; stepson Dennis Runnels of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepdaughter Sherrill Chapman of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; two cousins, 15 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
