The Douglas High boys basketball team finished off a solid defensive weekend with a 59-32 win at Damonte Ranch on Saturday.

Douglas held its opponents to 69 points over the weekend as the Tigers were coming off a 53-37 win over Carson on Friday.

"We were happy with our defensive effort," said Douglas coach Rob Streeter, whose team improved to 5-4 in the Sierra League. "Our kids are really starting to buy into the defensive end. Primarily we are controlling the defensive boards."

Keith Olson scored 15 points and Michael Gransbery added 13 points. Gransbery hit three three-pointers in his return after serving a one-game suspension against Carson that resulted from an altercation in Tuesday's game at Wooster. "It was a nice way to get back into the groove of things," Streeter said.

Streeter also praised Nate Whalin's defense and rebounding.

SPRING CREEK 73, DAYTON GIRLS 13

Brittany Hill scored nine points for Dayton, which was outclassed by one of Northern Nevada's top teams.

"Spring Creek is a great team," Dayton coach Shari Andreasen said. "Their pressure defense is tougher than any 4A school we've seen. We came out wanting to play hard and not give up.

Unfortunately discouragement and a loss of a tough competitive defensive attitude hurt us. We will bounce back for Sparks and Incline next week."
