Candidates for sheriff of Lyon County will participate in a forum sponsored by the Lyon County Democratic Central Committee at 7 p.m. July 24 at the Dayton Valley Country Club.

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a mixer 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Desert Rose GMAC, 2085 Highway 50 E.

Commissioner candidates to speak
A candidates' forum for those running for a seat on the Lyon County Board of Commissioners will be 6:30 p.m. July 26 at the Dayton Community center, 170 Pike St.
The event will be a round-table format and will be moderated by Cary Dyer, executive director of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sponsors include the chamber, the Wild Horse Preservation League and Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.
Citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions through the moderator.

Golf scramble to benefit chamber
A golf scramble to benefit the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will begin8:30 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Dayton Valley Country Club.
The event, a four-person modified scramble, costs $110 per player and includes a continental breakfast, polo shirt, lunch, raffle prizes, greens fees with cart and range balls.
There are still sponsorships available at the tournament level of $1,500, platinum level at $1,000 and gold level for $500.
There are 36 holes available for sponsors.

Silver Springs
Equestrian group to hold BBQ, poker rides
The Lyon County Horsemen's Association will hold a barbecue ride and poker chip ride Saturday.
It will feature 3- and 1 1/2-hour rides from Andy and Sharon Quinn's ranch at 3225 Fifth St., Silver Springs. Riders can choose either ride to participate in.
Cost for members is $5 and a side dish; $15 for nonmembers.
The menu will include barbecue tri-tip and ribs with assorted potluck side dishes and desserts. Sue Barton will provide a karaoke setup for entertainment.
On July 29, a poker chip ride , a 12-mile loop on a dirt trail, with a $50 first prize will be held at the Boy Scout Camp at Fort Churchill.
Participants will receive a poker chip with a number on it. Upon returning from the ride, each number is matched with a number on the prizes. Everyone is a winner.
Registration is 9 a.m. and first rider out will be at 10 a.m.
Cost is $5 for LCHA members and a potluck dish and includes the park fee, lunch and one poker chip. Cost for nonmembers is $15. Additional poker chips are $5.

Virginia City
Second bluegrass festival this weekend
Bring a lawn chair and kick up your heels as musicians are pickin', grinnin' and sawin' fiddles at the second annual Bluegrass on the Comstock today through Sunday in Miners Park in Virginia City.
Tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m. will feature jam sessions at the old V&T Depot on E Street, Saturday will have a band scramble and songwriters contests.
Participating bands include the Cool River Trio, the F-150s, Digger Davis, The Back Forty, Acoustic Blend, Straight Ahead Bluegrass, Nevada Rain and Too Tall For Our Hair.
Admission is $25 for Saturday and Sunday, $15 for a single day and $20 in advance. Tickets are at the gate or at Sundance Bookstore, Maytan Music Centers in Reno and Carson City and at the Virginia City Visitors Center, 86 South C St.
