A "running gun battle" between two warring Hispanic gangs ended with a teenager shot in the face last night in a northeast Carson City neighborhood, authorities said.
The 16-year-old victim was shot at about 11 p.m. Monday in front of a home at 4839 August Dr. The boy's name was not released.
According to Carson City Sheriff's Lt. Bob White, unidentified victims called the home just before 11 p.m. and stated they were being chased by rivals. As the two cars raced up August Drive those in the home ran outside with "boards and rocks" and someone in the chase vehicle fired a shot through the rear passenger window. The bullet struck the 16-year-old just right of his right nostril. The teen was conscious and alert when taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center.
Authorities said the passengers in the vehicle fled the scene as did the car with the shooter.
Investigators believe at least three shots from two different weapons were fired. Bullet casings were found in front of the August Drive home and at the intersection of Sunrise Drive and Highway 50 East.
A dark blue, black or purple four-door sedan with the driver's side rear-passenger window missing is being sought. A warrant was issued for the victim vehicle and it was impounded from the yard of the home.
