The Carson 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars opened with two wins at the State Tournament on Saturday in Elko.
Carson rolled past Fallon 7-2 and Sparks 17-8 to improve to 4-0 in postseason play. Carson will play the winner between Reno West and South Reno at 7 p.m. today and with a win would advance to Monday's championship round.
Carson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Tyler Hutchins singled and Justin Allbritten followed with an RBI double. Allbritten eventually scored on a double steal attempt.
In the fourth, Brooks Hutchins doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and then Ricky Garcia walked. Hutchins and Garcia pulled off a double steal as Hutchins scored to make it 3-0. Garcia advanced to third on a throwing error on the play and scored on Anthony Torkeo's RBI sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
Carson took a 7-1 lead in the fifth when Tyler Hutchins singled and stole second. Allbritten reached on a bunt single and Brett Allen followed with a two-run single. Another run eventually scored on an error.
Tyler Hutchins went 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, Allbritten went 2-for-4 with two runs and a two stolen bases, Allen was 2-for-4, Brooks Hutchins doubled twice and had three stolen bases and Garcia had two stolen bases.
Allbritten was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs on one hit and walking none over four innings. Tyler Hutchins picked up the save, allowing one run on two hits over three innings.
Against Sparks, Carson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, scored four runs to take a 9-4 lead in the fourth and then broke the game open by scoring seven runs in the sixth to take a 16-4 lead.
Carson banged out 15 hits. Allen was 4-for-5 with three RBI, Craig Newsome was 3-for-5 with an RBI, Brooks Hutchins was 2-for-4 with three RBI, Joey Crump was 2-for-2 with an RBI, Torkeo and Ryan Chandler each had a hit and an RBI and Tyler Hutchins and Justin Allbritten each added a hit.
Brooks Hutchins pitched three innings for the win and Danny Gall struck out the side in the seventh.
