A pilot was unhurt when he crashed his plane at the intersection of Apollo Drive and Hiko Court at about 12:30 p.m. today.

Witnesses say the engine was not running when the as-yet-unidentified pilot struck the asphalt with the belly of the plane, then bounded throught the edge of a yard before coming to rest about three houses from where he first struck ground.

The pilot climbed from the wreckage himself and refused medical attention, said Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have blocked off the scene and are awaiting the arrival of investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration.

"There were two people in his plane," said Dottie Kelley, whose yard the plane went through. "Him and the guardian angel who protected him and everyone else."
