Nevada has been awarded $2.1 million in federal funding to support the Victims of Crime program.

That is less than half the $4.8 million the program provided to individuals in 2005.

"This vital program has helped many unfortunate victims of crime to begin the process of putting their lives back together," said Gov. Kenny Guinn.

The program provides financial compensation and counseling to victims of crime to pay medical bills, funeral costs and lost wages.

This is the seventh year the federal program has provided money to Victims of Crime in Nevada.
