(Staff report) - The Nevada Arts Council approved a dozen Folklife Apprenticeship Grant awards totaling $28,958. The apprenticeship grant recipients are:
• Dele Adefemi will teach Kachell Figueroa and Markeeta Figueroa, all of Las Vegas, Nigerian drumming, dance and language.
• Leah Brady will teach Lois Whitney, both of Elko, Western Shoshone "boat" cradle basket making.
• Fred Buckmaster will teach Logan Nuttall, both of Fallon, Western saddle making.
• Xian Na Carlson will teach Ingrid Carlson and Ning Chen, all of Gardnerville, Chinese "Long Sleeve" dance.
• Yoko Fitzpatrick will teach Cassius Quintero, both of Wadsworth, Paiute songs, handgames, round dances and stories.
• Mary McCloud, of Schurz, will teach Marlin Thompson, of Yerington, Paiute-Shoshone Songs and Meanings.
• Betty Robison will teach Crystal Allen, both of Fallon, Western Shoshone language and culture.
• Rosemary Rogers de Soto will teach Elizabeth Rogers and Savena Rogers, all of Yerington, Paiute willow cradleboard making.
• Clare Smokey will teach Richard Burchett, both of Carson City, Washoe storytelling and culture.
• Thelma Thompson will teach Teddi Hatch, both of Yerington, Paiute foodways.
• Lesley Williams will teach Kacidee Williams, both of Wadsworth, Paiute cradleboard making.
