A vacant single-wide trailer was destroyed Wednesday in a Silver Springs fire.

Central Lyon County Fire District Chief Mark Darragh said the fire began about 4 p.m. in the 1700 block of Tonopah Street.

When the first engines arrived, the trailer, an RV, several hundred feet of fence line, an outbuilding and a quarter-acre of wildland was ablaze, he said.

Firefighters gained control within 50 minutes, and prevented the flames from reaching five nearby homes, Darragh said. North Lyon County and Mason Valley firefighters aided in the suppression efforts.

Two firefighters were treated at the scene for "heat-related injuries."

Darragh said the case is under investigation, however witnesses reported seeing juveniles playing in the area prior to the fire.
