River Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday canceled


The Carson River Advisory Committee meeting regularly scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled.


The next regularly scheduled meeting is Aug. 2.


Indian taco sale to benefit dance group


There will be an Indian Taco sale from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at 2900 S. Curry St. to support the Great Basin Dance Group. Tacos are $5, bread is $2, and soda is 50 cents. Advance orders will be taken, or the public can come in and order personally. There is no delivery. For information or to place an order, call 530-4239.




CASA to begin training volunteers Thursday


Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will begin training volunteers from 6-7 p.m. Thursday in the conference room of the Juvenile Court Building, 1545 E. Fifth St.


The public is welcome to attend the first session to learn about becoming a CASA volunteer.


Nine training classes will be scheduled at this meeting.


Volunteers advocate for children who have been removed from their home as they make their way through the court process. Call 882-6776.


Music club to hold annual barbecue


The Carson City Music Club's annual barbecue is 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center's patio. Entertainment will be provided by bluegrass group The Black Forty. Tickets are $7 at the door, and advance reservations are required by Thursday. Participants need to bring a chair. Call 720-9058.




Scrapbooking class at senior center


A scrapbooking class will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Piñon Pines Room at the Carson City Senior Center. Learn how to preserve photos into safe and meaningful albums. Students should bring a few photos to make a sampler. Call 885-8230.

Virginia City to hold parade, festivities for Independence Day


Virginia City will be having an Independence Day Celebration beginning at noon Tuesday with a patriotic parade. There will be entertainment for the young and old as well as live band performances and fireworks. Call 847-0311 or 847-4386.
