Girl Scouts host day camp

Carson City Girl Scout Troops 49 and 115 will host a week long day camp to experience activities that they didn't have the time to do over the school year from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today through Friday.

The camp is open to all Girl Scouts or girls who wish to try out scouting. The girls should expect to come home with a whole "vest full" of patches.

Camp director Steffany Walker said, "The troops were getting a little bored with the regular activities and decided we should try some of the stuff we don't usually have the time for."

The week will feature arts and crafts, science, and sports. "We plan to put on a play, take a tour of historic Carson City, study the local birds, make rock candy, and play tennis, as just a few of our activities."

The camp will originate from Crosstumblers Gymnastics; 940 Mallory Way, No. 3. However, activities will include nature walks, a bus ride, and a trip to the Carson City Recreational Center for swimming and skating.

The number of patches each girl earns depends on the motivation of the group; however, it is possible for Brownies to earn up to 18 Try-Its, the Junior Girl Scouts up to 22 badges, and the Cadette/Senior Girl Scouts up to 15 Interest project patches, in addition to the participation patches that they will receive.

Some of the Junior Girl Scouts who will be completing their final project for their Bronze Award as well as Cadettes who are volunteering to earn their Community Service pin.

The cost of the camp is $120, which includes all activities and the appropriate patches, snacks and lunch, and Girl Scout membership for those not registered.
