The Reno-Tahoe Chapter of the American Marketing Association lunch seminar on elevating marketing performance using cost-effective marketing measurement at Harrah's Reno Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Featured speakers, Sara Hart and Jim Lynn, will discuss how organizations - from sole proprietorships to small businesses to large corporations - can use research concepts to help their businesses succeed. • Three-day creative nonfiction writing workshop at St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City led by writer Bob Reid. He will lead an exploration of such elements of nonfiction writing as characterization, description, style and narrative technique. He'll talk about a wide variety of nonfiction forms, from memoirs to magazine articles to travel pieces to movie reviews. The goal will be for everyone to depart on the last day with a new piece of writing underway, or one previously begun elevated to the next level. • Nevada's Annual Rural Roundup Tourism Conference begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Piñon Plaza resort on Highway 50 East. Tourism development expert Roger Brooks will share his 10 top ideas for actions communities can take to attract more visitors at the Nevada Commission on Tourism's annual Rural Roundup conference. Brooks, a partner at Destination Development, Inc., in Olympia, Wash., will deliver the keynote address, "Ten Things You Need to Know to Create a Successful Brand." Activities begin April 5 with a Ghost Walk Tour through Carson City's downtown historic district to demonstrate to delegates how to package history for tourism, and a welcome reception at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. On April 6, delegates will hear the keynote address, a presentation about rural Nevada and the international arena and eight tourism sessions. The annual awards to tourism volunteers for exceptional achievement will be presented at the Thursday evening dinner. On April 7, delegates will tour of the Nevada State Museum, State Capitol, Nevada Legislature and Nevada State Library and Archives.
