Historic Resources Commission meets Thursday evening


The Historic Resources Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room at the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Items scheduled for the agenda: possible discussion and possible action regarding the demolition of the Presbyterian Church; building of children's playhouse and erecting a fence at 603 W. Robinson St.; and mulling of rules regarding commissioners representing their own projects.


Carson Tahoe offers bariatric seminars and support groups


Carson Tahoe offers free seminars each month about the latest treatment options available for obesity. Also offered are free monthly support groups for people considering weight loss surgery or who have had surgery. Call 445-8486.




BLM to conduct brush pile burns


The Bureau of Land Management will begin conducting low-intensity brush pile burns near Heaven Hill Way and Powerline Road in Carson City during the next few weeks. Light smoke may be visible west of highway 395 on burn days. Call 885-6185 or 885-6120.




Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee to meet


The Carson City Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Executive Conference Room, City Hall, 201 N. Carson St. Enter the building from Musser Street.


Items for discussion include legislative revisions of NRS 279; committee functions; and, an update of authority activities.


Residents also are invited to speak about topics on or off of the agenda.




Group for retired public employees meets today


The Carson City Chapter of Retired Public Employees of Nevada will meet at 2 p.m. today at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.


All retired public employees are welcome.

Cultural Homestay International seeking host families


Cultural Homestay International, a nonprofit organization that places foreign exchange students and au pairs into American homes, is seeking host families for students in the Minden/Gardnerville area, and host families for au pairs in Carson City and the surrounding area. One family in the Carson City area for a student is also needed.


Students are high school juniors and seniors from Europe and Asia. They speak English, and have their own insurance and money.


Host families do not have to have teenagers or be in a specific age range to participate.
