Swing in to St. Paddy's week starting with the Mile High Jazz Band's "Jazz and Poetry" on Tuesday.
The band, along with vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by local poets for another lively evening at Comma Coffee. The theme is childhood and growing up, said David Bugli, the band's leader and pianist.
Organizers will alternate poetry readings and music. Poets Krista Benjamin, Bill Cowee, Terri Breedin, Rita Geil and Richard Smith will be featured.

If you're looking for a fun time, two events will start the Irish celebration right.
Thursday, Mallard's Restaurant at Empire Ranch Golf Course has a St. Patrick's Day beer-tasting event. For $15, you get to sample several beers and enjoy a wonderful buffet. This is a very enjoyable night out for couples or singles, and they don't scrimp on the beverages or food.

On Saturday, the Knights of Columbus are hosting a true St. Patrick's dinner at the Piñon Plaza. This is also reasonably priced at $15 and, of course, the meal consists of the traditional corned beef-and-cabbage dinner.
There is also a raffle and auction of more than 100 prizes donated by local merchants, casino shows and a Lake Tahoe cruise. All the proceeds go back to the community, with yearly donations to St. Teresa's School student scholarships, the Community Pregnancy Center and the Eagle Valley Children's home, just to name a few.
So give Danny Boy, aka Dick Moore, a call to make your reservations and purchase raffle tickets. You do not have to be present to win.

All individuals who swear "My chili is the best in town" can now prove it.

One individual will walk away with a $50 prize for the best chili and $20 for the best-named chili such as "Buzzard Breath" and "Doggone-good Chili."
