Penny Marsh of Model Dairy in Reno reported the annual Model Dairy Charity Fishing Derby was held at Pyramid Lake on March 11-12.
That two-day derby was sponsored by Model Dairy of Reno, who will distribute 100 percent of the proceeds from the event to children's organizations such as Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada and Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA).
There were a total of 881 fishermen.
The winners of the derby were:
First Place Team of Jason Pierce, Paul Vanetti, Jeff Morris and Jason Langslet with a total weight of 44.48 pounds won $1,500.
Second Place Team of Frank Zuboera, Matt Lyons, Tony Ross and Jeff Winters with a total weight of 40.38 pounds won $1,200.
Third Place Team of Randy Howard, Nathan Howard, Kyle Haskin and Clinton Quam with a total weight of 36.74 pounds won $1,000.
Fourth Place Team of Doran Wheeler, Bobby Wheeler, Bobby Wheeler Jr. and Nathan Wheeler with a total weight of 36.74 pounds won $800.
Note: The tie for third was decided by cutting cards.
The heaviest cutthroat was caught by Rob Peterson. It weighed 13.35 pounds, measured 31.35 inches and won $2,000. The second heaviest was caught by Tim Zanhiser. It weighed 9.72 pounds, measured 28.75 inches and won $1,000. The third heaviest was caught by James Messer. It weighed 9.28 pounds, measured 27.75 inches and won $500.
