As special event season approaches, the Carson City Health Department would like to remind the public how important food safety is at special events.


Persons must have a temporary food permit in order to operate at a special event.


The following is a brief list of items necessary when applying for the temporary food permit and operating as a food vendor at special events.


• Applications must be received at least five working days prior to event


• Vendors must have a temporary Carson City Business License


• Metal-stemmed thermometers are required at each food booth


• Vendor must have a hand-washing station


• Food booths must have an overhead structure


• Food prepared in a private residence is strictly prohibited

NARFE meets Tuesday


NARFE Chapter 1329 will meet at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Grandma Hattie's, 2811 S. Carson St. The business meeting is at 12:15 p.m. All active and retired federal employees are invited to attend. Call 884-2724 or 246-0926.




BAC hosts open auditions of "Love's Labor's Lost"


Auditions for the Brewery Arts Center's production of "Love's Labor's Lost" are at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the BAC Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. Auditions consist of cold readings from Shakespeare's play. All roles are open and include men and boys of all ages and women ages 18-40. Call 883-1976.




AARP holds 'Music for March' meeting


"Music for March" will be the theme of the Carson City AARP Chapter 732 at its meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Senior Center's Nevada Room. Pianist Richard Sowers will present compositions by the late Duke Ellington, as well as a narrative about his band and life. Guests are invited to attend. Call 267-1715.

Soil workshop planned


The UNR Cooperative Extension will be holding a free workshop entitled "Organic Soils for Healthier Plants" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bartley Ranch in Reno. This is part of the "Gardening in Nevada" series of workshops. Call 784-4848.




Dayton


Tobacco prevention group holds dinner


Youth Educating About Tobacco Issues groups from Lyon and Storey counties will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Dayton Round Table Pizza. New members are welcome. Please bring $5 for pizza. Call 884-4671 or 246-7550.
