Two former Carson High standouts will have a chance to earn All-American honors today in the final day of the NCAA Swimming Championships in Athens, Ga.
Stanford's Lauren Costella and Minnesota's Kate Hardt will both compete. Hardt tuned up for today's 800-yard freestyle relay with a strong effort in the 200 free on Friday.
Hardt came into the event seeded 44th and finished 30th in one minute, 48.82 seconds. Minnesota comes into today's 800 free relay seeded sixth, giving Hardt an excellent chance to All-American honors.
Costella also has an excellent chance to earn All-American honors in the 1,650 free. Costella comes into the event seeded 17th, but that seeding is deceiving as Stanford didn't peak for the recent Pac 10 Championships. Costella earned All-American honors by taking sixth in last year's NCAA meet.
Salaices fires ace
Gregg Salaices recently shot a hole-in-one at Silver Oak Golf Club. He used a 9-wood form the white tee on the 137-yard 12th hole. Robert Johnson witnessed the ace.
