Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beers begins a five-day tour of rural Nevada today, saying he'll focus on his message of fiscal control for state and local governments.
He plans visits to Battle Mountain, Elko, Fallon, Fernley, Gardnerville, Incline Village, Hawthorne, Lovelock, Walker Lake, Ely, Winnemucca, Zephyr Cove as well as other communities. He said he'll also attend the Carson City Republican Convention on Saturday.
Beers, a state senator representing Las Vegas, said the keystone of his platform is contained in his proposed constitutional amendment to limit government spending increases to the percentage of population growth plus inflation. He said only voters could override that limit.
He pointed out his primary opponent, Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., opposes the proposed amendment.
