Businessman Paul Singleton has announced he will try to unseat Reno Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, D-Reno, in Assembly District 27.

A Republican, he said he and other Nevadans have "grown weary of the nanny approach to government that pervades the liberal majority in our Legislature."

He said government should be small and "must not turn a profit on the backs of businesses and individuals."

Singleton recently retired from the U.S. Navy. He operates a small business in the information security industry.

The district includes downtown Reno and surrounding parts of town, as well as homes along the South Virginia Street corridor.
