A funeral service for Evelyn Collins Martinez, 92, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Schurz United Methodist Church. A gathering will be held after the service at the Schurz Community Center. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.
Mrs. Martinez died March 20, 2006, at the Regency Care Center in Reno. She was born June 5, 1913, in Duckwater, to Frank and Winnie Collins.
She attended the Stewart Indian School.
She married Henry Martinez, of Schurz, and moved to Fallon in the 1950s where she worked at the Churchill County Hospital.
She belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in both Fallon and Schurz, and was active with the Schurz Senior Center.
She enjoyed traveling to powwows, shopping, crocheting, sewing, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, gathering pine nuts and picking buckberry.
She was a cancer survivor.
She was preceded in death by sisters Bernice Collins Picotte, Josephine Collins Nelson, Lilly Lauher and Elizabeth Collins; and brothers Benjamin "Spider" Collins and Francis "Wolf" Collins.
Among her survivors are her sister, Bertha Rose, and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at the Schurz Cemetery.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
