Carson High School culinary team wins state championship


The Carson High School culinary program took first place Monday in the Pro Start state championships at the Culinary Institute of Las Vegas.


The CHS Culinary Management Team of Kristen Dhu, Whitney Hoote, Rachel Neitzke and Ashley Standridge competed in a two-part competition and took third place. The CHS Hot Foods Culinary Team of Andrew Coleman, Jennifer DeRosa, Troy Szczotka and Kelly Taylor competed in a one-hour competition and took first.


The team is fundraising immediately to cover the cost of competing nationally in North Carolina in May. Donations can be sent to the Carson High School Culinary Arts Department, 1111 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, NV 89701


Carson Performing Arts presents 'Seussical'


Carson High School's Performing Arts will present the Broadway musical "Seussical" at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., in Carson City.


"Seussical" will be performed Friday and Saturday and April 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday and April 1 and 2 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 for children, $9 for students and seniors, and $10 general admission.

Republican party plans Carson City convention


The county convention of the Republican party for Carson City/County will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Nevada Room of the Governor's Mansion.

'Forever Plaid' to open today


"Forever Plaid," a play featuring four singers killed in a crash and then revived, will open today.


Shows run at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from today through April 9. Tickets are $18 general, $16 for students and seniors, and $14 for youth 17 and under.

Area merchants to hold 'Vender Blender'


Merchants of Jafra Cosmetics, Tupperware, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Home Interiors and Gifts, Creative Memories and Cachet Candles will be holding the first "Vender Blender" of this year. All of these consultants will be in one place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at 4051 Lepire Drive in Carson City. There will be a raffle with a prize giveaway worth more than $300. Call 250-6040.


Carson High School asks for senior project volunteers


Carson High School is asking community members to consider serving on a panel for the senior project presentations, on May 11 and 12. There will be optional training sessions on May 2, 4, and 6. RSVP's are due today. Call 283-1655.


Sertoma Club hosts 'Men's Night Out'


The Sertoma Club is hosting its annual Men's Night Out, a major fundraiser for children with hearing and speech disabilities. This event will take place at 6:30 tonight at the Carson City Senior Center. Tickets are $20 and are available in advance or at the door. There will be raffles, food and drinks, and the Bud Girls serving and awarding prizes.

Orthopedic clinic for children offered


There is a free orthopedic screening clinic for children from birth to 18. An orthopedic surgeon and nurses will be doing assessments from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Minden Medical Center at 925 Ironwood Drive. Call 782-8982.


Scrapbooking event benefits charities


Close to my Heart, and several local independent consultants, will be holding a community scrapbooking event to raise awareness and funds for the Operation Kids network of children's charities.


The event will be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. April 1 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church. Preregistration is required by today. Cost for all day is $30 or $65 with classes. Attendees may also choose to take a la carte classes at $10 each.

Fallon


Rodeo team fundraiser in Fallon


The WNCC Fallon Intercollegiate Rodeo Team is having it's fifth annual fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Fallon Convention Center, at 100 Campus Way.


No-host cocktails start at 6 p.m., followed by a barbecue-style dinner at 7. Tickets are $25 per person or $200 for a reserved table of eight. Tickets are available at WNCC Fallon, Jeff's Copy Express in Fallon, or Feeds of Nevada in Fallon.
