Greater Nevada Credit Union offers 15 scholarships

The Greater Nevada Credit Union is currently accepting applications for its annual academic scholarship program. This year, Greater Nevada will award 15 scholarships for $1,000 each.

The scholarships are available to Greater Nevada members and their spouses and children. Applications are available at all Northern Nevada high schools, any Greater Nevada branch, or online at www.gncu.org/Scholarship.html.

Completed applications must be turned in to a Greater Nevada branch by 5:30 p.m. Friday. Call 882-2060.

Carson City

WNCC holds recycled art show

Western Nevada Community College in Carson City is encouraging area residents to collect their junk and create art in the 11th annual "Recycled Art(icles)" contest. WNCC is accepting entries Thursday and Friday at the Bristlecone Building Main Information Desk.

The contest is open to WNCC students and staff, and anyone interested in the community as well. Entries must contain recycled materials which have previously been used for something else. All 2D objects must be fitted with wire or string so that they can be hung on a wall. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Most Creative and Most Useful entries. There will be an artists reception for the show at 5:30 p.m. April 13.

State Museum to offer behind-the- scenes tour

The Nevada State Museum in Carson City will be offering an up-close look at some of its hidden treasures as part of the behind-the-scenes tour at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Two separate tours are available, one featuring the anthropology collection and one featuring natural history. For information, call 687-4810, ext. 237.

Muscle Powered and BAC present film

Muscle Powered, in conjunction with the Brewery Arts Center, will show "End of Suburbia," a documentary film that explores the American way of life and its prospects as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply.

This movie will show at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Reynolds Theater of the BAC.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Adult softball league accepting registration until Friday

The adult softball league will be accepting applications through Friday for one women's team and two men's teams for the 16-game season and a co-ed team. For the 10-game season, a 35+ co-ed team, a men's 40+ and men's 60+ teams are needed. Sponsorship costs are $540 for each of the 16-game teams or $340 for each of the 10-game teams. Each team must pay a $10 umpire fee for each game, and must pay $25 per team per year for the USSSA registration. Call 887-2290 ext. 104.

Carson High senior urges blood donations

Carson High School student Tara Singleton is asking all who are able to come to Carson's United Blood Services center, 256 E. Winnie Lane, to donate for her senior project, "Disease and Blood Transfusion." Donate through April 7 and enter to win a drawing to win a gift certificate to Best Buy. Singleton will be at the Carson City United Blood Services office today. Pizza will be served from 4-7 p.m. for donors. Call 887-9111.
