Carson track has outstanding efforts

Alex McAlman shattered he own personal best with a throw of 134 feet, nine inches to take third in the girls discus to highlight an outstanding effort by the Carson High boys and girls track teams on Saturday at the Stanford Invitational.

Carson had several personal and season bests on the day. Andrea Kierstead also had personal best of 15.57 seconds in taking sixth in the 100 hurdles.

Kayla Sanchez took sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.34 while Kierstead finished in 1:11. Jeremy Gray finished the boys 400 hurdles in 57.13 and the 400 in 51.14.

Eric Walther also had a season best of 142-7 to take ninth in the boys discus. The girls 4x400 team of Kierstead, Gloria Sosa, Sanchez and Christy Works had a season best of 4:11.

Kierstead ran 1:03, Sosa ran 1:04 and Sanchez and Works each had outstanding legs of 1:01. The girls 4x800 relay of Annie Brinson, Sosa, Allie Collier and Works took fifth. Brinson ran 2:30, Sosa and Collier each ran 2:33 and Works ran 2:28.

"We had a pretty good day," Carson coach Todd Ackerman said. "The kids did very well. For not having a lot of meets under our belt we did a very good job."
