The Carson High junior varsity baseball team - just like the Senators' varsity - ended up in second place in the Sierra League, but can take satisfaction that it took two-of-three from first place Reno High.
Carson settled for a split on Saturday, losing the opener 10-3, but winning the nightcap 5-4. Carson (22-3), finished 17-3 in league, one game behind Reno.
Tyler Smith was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, allowing two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings. Matt Rutledge went 2-for-2, Cody Barr was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Cody Bone had a triple and an RBI, Tommy Preston tripled and Drew Good added a hit.
In the opener, Kyle Stone, Stephen Sawyers, Dustin Buttner, Rutledge and Paul Cagle all had a hit.
