Abby Niehoff of the Carson Tigersharks finished the short course season as the No. 1 ranked swimmer in the Pacific Region in three events.
The Pacific Region covers Northern California and Northern Nevada. For girls ages 13-14, Niehoff was ranked first in the 500-yard freestyle at 4 minutes, 59.60 seconds, first in the 1,000 free at 10:21.78 and first in the 1,650 free in 17:13.34. Niehoff is also ranked second in the 200 butterfly in 2:06.07.
Overall, Niehoff was ranked sixth in the 500 free, seventh in the 1,000 free, fourth in the 1,650 free and eighth in the 200 fly.
Also of the Tigersharks for 17-18 girls, Jamie Engan was ranked fifth in the 500 free (5:06.58), second in the 1,000 free (10:21.60) and third in the 1,650 free (17:37.10). Overall, Engan is ranked sixth in the 1,000 free.
Pop Warner signups set for May 20
Carson City Pop Warner's last scheduled signups for the 2006 season for players and cheerleaders will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20 at the Governor's Field football shack.
On June 1, the cost to sign up will increase to $175 per participant. Registration forms are available on the league's website at www.carsoncitypopwarner.org.
All registration fees must be paid in full by the first day of practice, Aug. 7. Volunteers are also needed.
