BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): "The road is still closed and it is going to be closed for quite awhile. Remember last year, they did not open it until the Fourth of July."

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jim of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707) (at 11 a.m.): Is fishing excellent from Boats. Is OK from shore. The boats are mostly still fishing with nightcrawlers or Power Bait. Fly fishermen are also doing well.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Some open water, stay off the ice.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: Brad Davis of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): It's still running pretty high but it's fishable. A guy had a 2.5 pounder and a 3.5 pounder in a stringer of four fish. There was a beautiful 3.2 pound brown caught on the West Fork.

West Carson River: Dave Kirby reported, "The river is running high and fast (830 CFS).

On Friday afternoon, Cal Piccolo of San Jose caught a huge, 13-pound rainbow on Salmon eggs near the Crystal Springs Campground. His dad had to help him land it. On Sunday, Corrine Jennings of Carson City and a member of OSA caught a 5.25 pound rainbow on Salmon eggs.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Elaine Quilici of Carson City caught and lost a large Northern Pike at the edge of the water, while trying to bring it in. It hit a bright yellow No. 2 TOR-P-DO lure on Saturday.

FEATHER RIVER, CALIF: Dave Jacobs/Hank Mautz (800-355-3113): Salmon fishing has really picked up in the last couple of weeks for chrome bright salmon averaging 12-20 pounds from Oroville to the town of Gridley. Anglers back-bouncing sardine wrapped K-14-15-16 Kwikfish lures in silver or gold color combos can expect best results.

Striper fishing in the Yuba City area has also continued to produce limits of stripers averaging 17-20 inches with larger fish weighing 7-12 pounds.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported, "On May 10, Robert Goodban of Modesto caught a 7.25 pound rainbow on red Power Bait. Fishing has been slow due to the full moon. It is best to fish early in the morning or late in the afternoon during the full moon.

KIRMAN (AKA CARMEN) LAKE, CALIF: Jim Reid reported that fishing has been slow. Only one decent report, so far: One angler kept two and released about a half-dozen.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy Swain at Burke's Market (Closed on Mondays) at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): "Little Johnny (last name unknown) of Reno caught a 15-pound (38-inch) Carp on May 11. They are catching Wiper Bass on Roostertail lures and jigs at the south side beaches. Bill Warner of Silver Springs caught a 2-pound Wiper on a jig."

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Andy at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113): "Pyramid is starting to slow down due to the warm weather, full moon and bright sunny days. They are still catching fish down by the Blockhouse and the Cattleguard."

RED LAKE, CALIF: Some open water, stay off the ice.

SACRAMENTO RIVER: Dave Jacobs/Hank Mautz:

Trout fishing has begun to improve near Redding with the lower releases from Keswick Dam. Trout fishing this week was the best its been in weeks with multiple hook-ups of wild rainbows from 1 to 3 pounds with the occasional 4 or 6 pounder.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF: Andy at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store said they caught 9 Kokanee salmon (up to 17 inches) by 10 a.m. on Saturday, when the wind came up. They were trolling "Murph's Bugs" at a depth of 35 feet in front of the boat ramp. They also caught one 20-inch Mackinaw trout.

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775) 266-3550: It's been OK. They are catching a lot of little fish (about 1 pound). They are starting to catch fish at the North end. There was a nice 4-pound, 12-ounce brown caught by Windsor Young of Washoe City on a nightcrawler from the "big rock" by the county campground.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071): Biggest fish of the week was a 3-pound, 11-ounce rainbow on a trolled Rapala lure. Full stringers of pan-sized rainbows from both boats and shore on rainbow Power Bait or nightcrawlers.

Upper Twin Lake: Jim Reid reported that on May 14, Steve Keene of Costa Mesa, Calif. caught a 16-pound, 9-ounce brown. He had trolled all day with no success, decided to cast lures from shore and caught it..

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Jim Reid reported that the road is now open, and Little Virginia Lake is showing some blue and you should stay off the ice.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:

East Walker: Running at 650 CFS and not muddy. The fly fishermen are catching some nice fish on Birds Nest, Hare's Ears and small Midges.

West Walker: Is still over 2,200 CFS. It should peak out on May 20-27.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Linda at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: "The weather is beautiful and warm. The ice is all gone. The reservoir is really full. Boats are out on the water, but no one is reporting back to us. They are catching 18-26 inch rainbows in the Owyhee River, below the dam's spillway."
