Kids' Camps could become very popular at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada if the one scheduled Friday night makes as much money and attracts as many children as the first.

"The Valentine's Day camp was a trial one," said Erin Lehman, interim executive director for the museum. "And the parents were like, 'You should do this once a quarter or once a month.'"

Tonight's camp, the second, is scheduled from 6-9 at the museum, 813 N. Carson St. The cost if $15 per child and children must be potty-trained or at least in pull-ups.

"This is a good way for mothers to enjoy their Mother's Day weekend with a night out with their hubbies," Lehman said. "We have all kinds of activities lined up for the kids."

Registration should be done in advance by calling the museum at 884-2226. Children will rotate through stations, and, in addition to making Mother's Day cards, can decorate cookies and watch a movie. Pizza and beverages are included in the cost. The regular exhibits will be open.

"The kids were crying when they had to leave the last time," Lehman said. "The kids really did not want to leave when their parents came to pick them up."

More than 15 volunteers and regular museum staff will be at the camp to watch the children.

"The one thing we ask is that parents have a pager or working cell phone," Lehman said. "Just in case an emergency comes in, we have some way to contact them. We didn't end up calling anyone last time. It's just nice to have a line of communication if we need it."

More than $800 was raised at the Valentine's Day Kid's Camp, and the money is put toward cost of crafts and other museum expenses.
