It's easy to have opinions, but for those selfless people who want to take the next step and really do something about them, time is short.
Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline to file as a candidate for public office and we encourage those who are concerned, fed up or just plain interested in the important issues facing their communities to make it to the clerk on time.
Already, dozens of residents have done just that, promising an election season full of important discussions about the issues.
Multiple candidates have filed in some races, including the Carson City Board of Supervisors, where incumbent Pete Livermore will face off against Charlie Kuhn, Joseph Eiben and Neil Weaver. The same is true of Carson school trustee district 6, where Barbara Howe and Roger Kirkland are challenging incumbent Jeff Fontaine.
But incumbents in other races are as yet unopposed. Among them are Justice of the Peace John Tatro, Assessor Dave Dawley, Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover, Sheriff Kenny Furlong, Treasurer Al Kramer and school trustees Norman Scoggin and James Hukari.
If you're on the fence about filing, we encourage you to take the step. Remember, you can withdraw up until May 23.
