Sierra Pacific Power Co. will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the largest power plant project in Northern Nevada since 1985.
The ceremony is at 11 a.m. Monday at the plant's construction site, approximately 17 miles east on Reno on Highway 80 adjacent to the existing Tracy Clark Generating Station.
At a estimated cost of $420 million, the 514-megwatt combined cycle plant will allow the company to expand its power-generation capacities and improve service reliability for its 353,000 customers in Northern Nevada and northeastern California. It is expected to be completed in June 2008.
Gov. Kenny Guinn, Public Utilities Commission Chairman Don Soderberg and several state and county officials will take part in the groundbreaking.
