A memorial service for Wayne L. Mortimer, 74, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Walton Funeral Home, 875 W. Second St. in Reno.
Mr. Mortimer died Nov. 5, 2006, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, due to complications from a recent surgery. He was born Feb. 2, 1932, in Coleville, Calif., to Wayne and Mildred Mortimer.
He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1949 and from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1954. While at UNR he belonged to the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
He married Annette Mortimer on June 13, 1954.
He served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of lieutenant.
He practiced law from 1959 to 2001 in Reno and was a member of the State Bar of Nevada. He was also a member of the Washoe County Bar Association and the American Bar Association; a founding member of Washoe Legal Aid Services; had served on the Board of Governors for many years and was one of the original members of the Medical-Legal Screening Panel.
He enjoyed exploring the back roads and ghost towns of Nevada, searching for arrowheads, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, landscaping and spending time with his dog, Bodie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael and Theresa Drakulich and nephew Tracy Saulisberry.
Among his survivors are his wife of 52 years; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Matt Wagner; sister Rohberta Reid; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jo and Chuck Saulisberry of Dayton; two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
