Gratitude is what always spoils life when it is left out. A thankful spirit enables one to praise God even when circumstances are difficult.

Alexander Whyte, the Scottish preacher, always began his prayers with an expression of gratitude. One cold, miserable day his people wondered what he would say. He prayed, "We thank Thee, O Lord, that it is not always like this."

Last Saturday was Veterans Day. A day when we honor those who served our country, who put aside their desires and dreams and went into the military. Some of who never returned.

Whether it was a police action or in another country or to serve within our own borders; these men and women were there training and learning to be ready at a moment's notice for whatever situation arose. God bless every one of them.

Next week is Thanksgiving. A time when we are to give thanks for what we have and have been blessed with.

Count your blessings instead of your crosses; count your gains instead of your losses. Count your joys instead of your woes; count your friends instead of your foes. County your smiles instead of your tears; count your courage instead of your fears.

Count your full years instead of your lean; count your kind deeds instead of your mean. Count your health instead of your wealth; count on God instead of yourself.

America, land of the free and home of the brave, built on a foundation and belief of God, and an idea of respect for one another. It is interesting that Veterans Day and Thanksgiving day are only a little more than one week apart. At times we are reminded to be thankful for those who sacrifice for freedom and the One who sacrificed for our souls.

Psalms 100:4, "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His court with praise: Be thankful unto Him, and bless His name."
