The Nevada Division of Forestry is requesting applications for the 2006 Wildland Urban Interface grant program's State Fire Assistance grants.

This grant is for minimizing wildfire risks in urban areas that are near wild lands. Grand projects should identify and assess fire risks, mitigate those risks and educate and inform communities about wildfires, including defensible space.

Nonprofit organizations, homeowners associations, local fire departments, fire protection districts, fire safe council chapters, city, county and state agencies and organizations are eligible to apply for funding.

The maximum amount available per application is $125,000. A minimum match of one-to-one is required for each project, which may be in the form of cash, donations and in-kind services. Federal funds may not be used as match. Call 684-2511.
