Sportsmen's organization to hold its end-of-year banquet

The Ormsby Sportsmen's Association (OSA), a local organization for hunters and fishermen, will hold its end-of-the-year banquet on Saturday evening, Dec. 2.

Banquet information:

That banquet, which annually attracts about 125 attendees, will be held at the Carson Nugget, upstairs at the Convention Center.

The evening will begin with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30. The cost to attend is $25 per person.

You can either send your money in early or you can pay at the door that evening. Either way, they need to know if you're going to attend, so they can provide that head-count information to the Nugget.

Banquet activities:

It will be a fun-filled evening of food, drinks, door prizes, raffles, auctions, introductions, serious presentations, "burn awards," and a "Skin's Drawing."

The door prizes will include:

An OSA vest for women.

An OSA vest for men.

The raffles will include:

Two $100 gift certificates at Sportsman's Warehouse in Reno.

An outdoorsman saw from Meek's Lumber.

A complete Coleman kitchen set for camping.

The auction will include:

Dennis Hudson as the Auctioneer who will auction such items as:

Framed artwork.

Golf packages.

Sport fishing for Mackinaw trout at Lake Tahoe.

A 12-gauge shotgun.

Granite carving boards from Radtke Tile and Leon Treants.

Serious presentations will include:

The Big Buck Contest for the member getting the largest buck deer in 2006, and Fishing Awards by categories such as the largest cutthroat trout, Mackinaw trout, rainbow trout and Walleye.

The burn awards include:

The "You Screwed Up" award to the member, who is voted on at the banquet, as having screwed up the worst during the year.

The "Sure Shot" award goes to the member who fired the most shots during the last hunting seasons. The all-time record is held by an archer who fired more than 20 arrows one year, without success.

The "Skin's Drawing" is a cash prize ($240) awarded only if you are a paid-up member and only if you are present at the banquet.

Elections:

Also included on the evening's agenda will be the introduction of the club's newly-elected president and the introduction of the directors of the club's board of directors.

The individual who received the most votes on the ballots will serve as club president for all of 2007.

The person with the second-most votes will serve as vice-president for that period of time. The candidates for president are returning board members: LaNora Clyde (incumbent President), Jerry Dyke, John Evans, Mike Fettic, Mike Gower and Bob "Slick" McCulloch.

The three outgoing directors are: Jack Cooke, Don Quilici and George Wilkerson.

OSA Info:

This will be last official OSA function of 2006.

The next OSA regular monthly meeting will be held at the Carson Nugget, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

OSA meets on the third Tuesday of each month for the months of January-May, has outdoor picnics in June-September and is back indoors in October and November.

There is no regular meeting in December.

All OSA meetings, functions and activities and are free of charge and open to all club members and to anyone else interested in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, etc.

Among the club's various activities throughout the year are meetings, picnics, the annual banquet, "Adopt A Highway," sponsoring a youth to the U.S.F.S. Wilderness Workshop, and involvement with the Carson Valley Chukar Club, Nevada Wildlife Federation, the Mule Deer Foundation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited.

The OSA annual membership dues are $5 for adults and $2 for youngsters under the age of 16.

Yep! That's correct, the annual dues for an adult are only $5.
