Carson City's Robert Hansen can call himself a champion in the Super Bowl of off-road, desert racing.

Hansen's team won the class for ages 50 and over for motorcycles in the Baja 1,000 in Baja, California, Mexico on Saturday. The Baja California, which was featured on ABC's Wide World of Sports for so many years, is considered the world's most prestigious off road race.

Hansen's team finished the 1,000 mile race in 26 hours, 34 minutes, 47 seconds, averaging 39.42 miles an hour with the Honda XR6504. Also on the team with Hansen, whose sponsors include Carson City's Michaels Cycle Works, were Jim O'Neal of Chatsworth, Calif., Doug Heil of Monrovia, Calif. and Mike Sixberry of Bullhead City, Ariz.
