'Food for Families' offers donation options

Raley's nonprofit organization Food for Families will be offering customers an easy way to donate to needy families this holiday season. Shoppers may purchase a bag filled with nutritious groceries, worth $20, for $10 at their local Raley's, 100 percent of all donations go directly to the community to feed the hungry.




NDOT launches 511 travel info system


The Nevada Department of Transportation has launched a new 511 travel information system offering instant free road information by phone and Internet. 511 is toll-free and is available 24 hours a day. The system posts weather, construction, traffic and road incident reports to 511 and www.nevadadot.com.




Scolari's to close at 3 p.m. for Thanksgiving


Scolari's Food and Drug Co. will be closing its stores at 3 p.m. Thursday to allow staff to spend time with their families. The Yerington store will close at 2 p.m. Stores will return to normal hours Friday.




Carson City


Parks and Rec looking for board members


The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from residents of Carson City interested in serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Applicants will be expected to commit a minimum of 10 hours a month to the commission, and must be registered voters. The closing date for volunteer applications is Dec. 18. Applications are considered public information. Applications must be returned to the Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson St. No. 2. Call 887-2100.




'Current Works' to be displayed at WNCC


Western Nevada Community College art instructor Connie Peng's works will be displayed at the college's Main Gallery from Nov. 20-Jan. 12. "Current Works" features oil paintings based around the idea of water. An artist's reception is 5-7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the gallery. For information, visit www.wncc.edu. The college is at 2201 W. Republican women to meet today


The Carson City Republican Women will be holding its monthly luncheon meeting at 11 a.m. today.

'Good Woman of Sichuan' shows at Piper's


The Virginia City Theater Muckers will present "The Good Woman of Sichuan" Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Piper's Opera House.


Cost is $10 for adults and $7 for students, and are also available at the door.
