The Nevada Department of Transportation has launched a new 511 travel information system offering instant free road information by phone and Internet. 511 is toll-free and is available 24 hours a day. The system posts weather, construction, traffic and road incident reports to 511 and www.nevadadot.com.

Parks and Rec looks for board members


The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from residents of Carson City interested in serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission.


Applicants will be expected to commit a minimum of 10 hours a month to the commission, and must be registered voters. The closing date for volunteer applications is Dec. 18. Applications are considered public information. Applications must be returned to the Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson St. No. 2. Call 887-2100.




St. Teresa to hold Thanksgiving Mass


St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, will hold Thanksgiving Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday. Parishioners are welcome to bring bread and wine for a special blessing and give thanks. Call 882-1968.




Roberts House to hold tea on Dec. 3


There will be a tea to benefit the Roberts House Museum at noon Dec. 3 for $18. Space is limited and early registration is requested by four days prior to the tea.

Railroad Museum to trade rides for toys


The Nevada State Railroad Museum will be giving free historic steam train rides to anyone who brings an unwrapped toy donation for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The museum will also remain an official drop-off site for the program though Dec. 17, 2006. Call 687-6953.




'Life and Adventures of Santa Claus' to show at the BAC


Carson Performing Arts will present "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus," based on the book by L. Frank Baum, as its annual fundraiser for the Brewery Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 and 8, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10.


Cost is $5 for children and students with student body cards, $7 for students, seniors, and Brewery Arts Center members, $8 general admission, and $25 for a family of four. For information or to purchase tickets, call 883-1976.
