Railroad museum to give free train rides for toy donations
The Nevada State Railroad Museum will be giving free historic steam train rides to anyone who brings an unwrapped toy donation for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. The museum will also remain an official drop-off site for the program though Dec. 17. Call 687-6953.
Junior ski and snowboard registrations Monday
The Carson City Recreation Division will be launching it's 50th annual Junior Ski Program from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday with registrations, and from 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 9, in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. Children ages 9 to 18 (or in the 4th grade and up) are allowed. Cost is $225 per participant, and equipment is not included. Call 887-2290 ext. 100.
Douglas County
Douglas library to help kids build gingerbread houses
The Douglas County Public Library in Minden will be leading children in building gingerbread houses using graham crackers and other sweets at 6 p.m. Monday.
Children and adults are welcome, and parents may help younger children with their project. Program limited to 20 participants. Call 782-9841.

Five local authors will be signing copies of their books at 11 a.m. today at the Sundance Bookstore, 1155 W. Fourth St. No. 106 in Reno.

Audubon society planning photography presentation of Tanzania on Tuesday
The Lahontan Audubon Society will be holding a photography presentation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the South Valleys Library, 15650A Wedge Parkway off of Mount Rose Highway.
