The Old Town Wine Walk was a great success last month, with more than 300 people strolling through downtown Carson City.
So the downtown participants are doing it again Saturday - a wine walk with a holiday theme. If you missed the first one, visit participating merchants pouring a variety of wines. Bundle up and enjoy a crisp walk about town while stopping to sip a variety of tasty grapes - from shiraz to pinot noir - check out the new D'vine Wine, and get some holiday shopping done.
Forget Napa and the long drive; you have it right here in Carson.

After spending the day in Carson City, head up to Virginia City for the monthlong holiday celebrations on the Comstock.
See the annual Christmas Parade of Lights, hear Comstock Cowboys' "Christmas in the Sierra" concert, and join the gingerbread contest and auction for a chance to win $1,000 in Virginia Bucks. Take the children and show them the magic when the town is illuminated among the sounds of Christmas.

This next event is pure tradition. You have to go at least once to watch the children look upon the Capitol tree as it is lit - the glimmer of light and the wonder and amazement in their eyes is well worth it.
Gov. Kenny and first lady Dema Guinn will be on hand as well as Mayor Marv Teixeira. But more important to the youngsters is Santa Claus will be coming to town.
Candy canes will be passed out, and the Carson City fifth-grade music students Singing Ensemble will sing, accompanied by the Carson Middle School's Red Hot Bell Peppers hand-bell choir.

This event always reminds me of my children Kyle, Nick and McKenna. They were so excited to see Santa Claus come on board a train and hand them each a candy cane.
When he'd ask if they had been good, they would always giggle and answer yes - smart kids. Afterward, we would have a photo taken on the Inyo locomotive.
There is a line, that some things in life are worth waiting for, and this is one of them as you watch your children or grandchildren so excited waiting for the train door to open and Santa to step through.
