Sierra Railroad Co. was chosen this afternoon to operate the $40 million V&T Railway to be reconstructed between Carson City and Virginia City.

The Northern California company was chosen following a five-hour long meeting today and beat out both the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Co. and American Heritage Railways.

The railway commission will now negotiate an operating agreement with the company before it takes over operation of the tourist line, that will be underconstruction through 2010.

In addition to freight, Sierra Railroad Co. operates three tourism trains, including the Sierra Railroad Dinner Train in Oakdale.
