Senator girls soccer beats Hug

The Carson High girls soccer team warmed up for a tough test on the road with a 6-0 win over Hug on Saturday at CHS.

Carson (7-2-2, 7-0-2) will play at Damonte Ranch at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Mustangs are battling for a berth in the Northern 4A playoffs and have played the Sierra League's other top four teams, Carson, Reno High, South Tahoe and Douglas virtually on even terms. Damonte lost at Carson 3-2 in the teams' first meeting and also had a tie against Douglas going into Saturday's game against the Tigers.

"They've definitely got something to go after," Carson coach Randy Roser said. "They're right there with every team. They seem to play pretty strong defense."

Against Hug, Brandi Vega scored on an assist from Brandy Cantley and Helaine Berris scored on an assist from Vega to give Carson a 2-0 halftime lead.

Ann Sinnott scored on a breakaway in the first four minutes of the second half. Kayla Sanchez scored twice and Kat Von Rumpf also scored to finish the scoring. Goalies Carly Mathat and Jennifer Johnson combined to post the shutout.

"We worked on some things, getting ready for the next game obviously," Roser said. "The second half we came out strong and put it away. We're playing well."
