At the seat of Lyon County's government, where decisions are made and policy is implemented, a group of residents is seeking to add a little color.
The group, headed by Pat Fietta, established the Lyon County Courthouse Gallery at the Administrative Complex, 27 S. Main St. in Yerington.
For the last five years, the gallery has offered a place to showcase local art and provide a forum for the creative side of Northern Nevada's residents.
"It's a remarkably wonderful gallery and the art just looks great in that building," Fietta said.
For its 35th show, the gallery is playing host to four women artists - which is also the show's title - exploring art in several mediums including acrylic, oils and watercolors. The exhibit features works by Reiko Hervin, Nanette Oleson, Pamella Nesbit and Mary Kropelnicki.
Hervin, a nationally and regionally exhibited watercolor artist from Smith, is featuring several of her recent portraits and natural-themed paintings.
"We wanted to get her back into the gallery. We'd exhibited her before and her work is just amazing," Fietta said.
Nesbit, of Smith, who worked with Judy Chicago on a "Stitch in Time," is a textile artist and painter who is showcasing acrylic paintings at the gallery.
"I see the world in images, symbols and colors and use art as a tool to discover myself, to bring into focus images or feelings that are in my mind or heart, and in so doing, I find clarity," Nesbit said.
Oleson, of Reno, will be exhibiting pieces from her "Luminous Skies: Beyond Boundaries" series comprised of oil paintings. Oleson is a full-time school counselor in Carson City and has been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Nevada Arts Council.
Kropelnicki began her career as a chef and cake decorator, which unleashed her love of painting.
"She is quite diverse and very talented. In doing the decorating she discovered that she loved to paint, and you can see her passion in her paintings," Fietta said.
The show will remain on display until Nov. 17.
