Marijuana legalization subject of panel discussion

Scott Burns, deputy director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, will lead a panel discussion about the effects of the marijuana legalization question on the Nevada ballot.

The discussion will be 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike St.

The event is hosted by the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties and Central Lyon Youth Connection.

WNCC to present 'Fiddler' musical

Western Nevada Community College Fallon will offer "Fiddler on the Roof," Nov. 9-11 and 16-18. Shows will be 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each week at the Churchill County High School Theatre.

"Fiddler on the Roof" illustrates how strong family ties, customs, and love can help carry a Jewish family through the woes of being oppressed.

Mary Myers will direct, Bridget Rigg-Anderson will be assistant director and stage manager, Debbie Edwards will choreograph the musical, and Scott Thompson will be the artistic director.

Foundation to hold petroglyphs tour

Nevada is home to an array of ancient rock art, and the Nevada Rock Art Foundation will give history and nature lovers the opportunity to view some of the state's oldest petroglyphs on a guided tour of Grimes Point, east of Fallon on Saturday.

Lyon Democrats meet

Mound House

Creation Celebration on Halloween

The second annual Creation Celebration by the Bread of Life Christian Fellowship of Mound House will be held at the church, 10042 Highway 50 E., at 6 p.m. Oct. 31.

As an alternative to the typical round of "trick-or-treating" and to honor God for creating the world, there will be a maze-like tour on the seven days of the Creation in the church sanctuary.

The free event will include a video presentation by the Institute for Creation Research showing continuously in the fellowship hall.

Piper's to host 1864 Governor's Ball

Piper's Opera House will again host the 1864 Governor's Ball 7-11 p.m. Oct. 28.

The dance will feature live, Victorian music, and attendees should wear period costumes or Western or formal attire.

Tickets are $37.50 each and are tax deductible. For a group of six or more, there is $5 off for each couple.

Tickets will be sold at the door.

Veterans Day Parade seeks entries for Nov. 11

Entries are being accepted for the Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11 in Virginia City.

To enter, mail a description of your entry to Lorraine Du Fresne at P.O. Box 3, Virginia City, NV 89440.

The parade forms at 10 a.m. at the Fourth Ward School, and begins at 11 a.m.

A dinner for parade participants will follow the parade at the Storey County Senior Center, at the corner of Mill and E streets. Late entries are welcome. Call 847-0509.

Comstock Cowboys to hold Christmas show at Piper's

David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform their annual holiday show, "Christmas in the Sierra," at Piper's Opera House on Dec. 9.

Shows will be held at 4 and 7:30 p.m, with proceeds to benefit Piper's Opera House and the Virginia City Chamber of Commerce Events Fund.

Goblin Parade planned for Halloween night

The second annual Goblin Parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Virginia City Jerky Co., 204 S. C Street on Halloween night, Oct. 31. Registration and lineup begin at 4 p.m.

Cash prizes will be given for costumes for both children and adults. Categories are Best Overall Costume, Scariest Costume and Most Original Costume. There will also be a prize for the Best Float or Vehicle.
