The Western Nevada Community College women's soccer team tuned up for next week's Scenic West Athletic Conference championship game by routing Colorado Mountain College 13-0 on Friday in Spring Valley, Colo.

The conditions didn't bother the Wildcats. Game time temperature was 40 degrees and the temperature dropped below 25 by the end of the contest.

"It snowed and hailed and rained through the game," WNCC coach Hillary Arthur said.

WNCC has also clinched a .500 finish for the second straight year. The Wildcats were scheduled to play Auraria College in Spring Valley today, but that game has been canceled and the Wildcats will receive a forfeit win.

That will place WNCC's record at 9-8-2 and guarantee it at least a .500 finish. Next up for WNCC will be the Scenic West championship game a week from today against North Idaho College at Couer d'Alene, Idaho.

The Scenic West's other two teams, Salt Lake City Community College and Colorado Mountain are considered club teams, so WNCC and North Idaho will play for the conference title.

The winner of the game will advance to the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association playoffs. The first two meetings between the two schools were won by North Idaho, but both were competitive. North Idaho won at home 2-0 and at WNCC in overtime 3-2.

Against Colorado Mountain, Courtney Hayes scored in the first 29 seconds on an assist from Hannah Lee. Virginia Loyola also scored and Courtney Lenhart and Lee scored twice to give the Wildcats a 6-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Phalan Mauntel scored on an assist from Loyola, Sabrina Cantrell scored on an assist from Meghan Olsen and Olsen, Savannah Gray, Demi Vega and Melissa Goldfin all scored.

Allie Otto and Rachelle Goulet split time between the goal and the field. Otto scored on an assist from Lee and Goulet almost scored twice, hitting the post on one shot and sending the ball just over the crossbar on another.
