The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning of yard debris through Nov. 26.

Open burning is a way to provide residents a chance to dispose of accumulated weeds and other flammable yard debris. A burn permit is required, however. An application must be filled out to obtain a permit.

Visit department headquarters, Fire Station No. 1, 777 S. Stewart St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays to obtain an application.

The paperwork also is available at Station No. 2, 2400 College Parkway and Station No. 3, 4649 Snyder Ave., 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. However, personnel might not available to hand out the paperwork because they're busy handling emergency calls at these outlying locations.

Another option is to download an application from the city's Web site: www.carson-city.nv.us. A PDF reader is required for the downloading to succeed. From the city's home page, click on "fire department," then "open burn."

Permits become valid after obtaining a permit number at least one day prior to burn. Call 887-2220, ext. 1001, during business hours, for details.
