Rex S. Norris, 86, a lifelong Reno resident, died Oct. 19, 2006, after an illness.
Mr. Norris was born Oct. 31, 1919, to LeRoy and Martha Wright Norris.
He graduated from Reno High School and attended the University of Nevada, Reno.
He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as an engineer for more than 30 years before retiring.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a locomotive engineer running supplies and troops in the Mideast theater.
He was a member of Kerak Shrine, was active in Jesters and Knights Templar, and was past president of the Kerak Greeters. He drove children to the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento and was a member of the Salvation Army advisory board, which he served many years as a bell ringer. He was past president of the Exchange Club, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He enjoyed traveling, cooking and going on cruises.
He was preceded in death by brother Bob Norris; wife, Elsie Norris; sister-in-law Gwen Leonard; brother-in-law Paul Leonard and nephew Guy Leonard.
Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law Molly Malone and Mike Dondero; sister and brother-in-law Reve and Dyer Jensen; sister Helen Torvienen; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital or a charity of choice.
